OUR BIG PIZZA MEETING for volunteers was held on August 18. We're losing three key officers, and their positions need filling. Current president Jim Loser has taken a job in Atlanta teaching design on Macs. Ray Buckson's short career as Program Coordinator came to an end when his job description changed; he is no longer able to attend the meetings. Majie Alley is resigning as Vice President, but she will continue to devote many hours per week on the Mac Monitor staff - typing, proofreading, and keeping the editor straight. All of these folks have done fine jobs and deserve our sincere thanks. There being no other volunteers for these positions, the new officers will be ratified at the September meeting.
Luckily we have volunteers to fill those important slots. Glen Toth has agreed to serve as President, coordinating and making sure that all of the details are attended to. Chris Masters will serve as Vice President, and Vickie Lambeth will be our new Program Coordinator. Since Brooks Greene has taken over the job of Sysop for the BBS, Steven Farmer will take over the duties of Membership Coordinator.
NEW MEMBERS joined us at the July meeting: Mark Taylor, Joseph Trotz, and Lance Williford. Mr. Taylor, a professor of graphic design at SCAD, uses a IIvx mostly for desktop publishing, logo design and to help with teaching. Continuing the recent trend of News-Press photographers joining our group, Mr. Trotz uses a IIfx for imaging, desktop publishing and entretainment. He can be found on SMUG's BBS, and he also has the mysterious birthday of 6/6/66! And last but not least, Lance Williford is a student at SCAD and a self-proclaimed "fashion victim and wearer of loud shirts." He's been online a lot recently trying out his new modem, and can otherwise be found doing "any and everything I can" with his LCIII. Welcome Mark, Joseph, and Lance!
Jumping on the SMUG bandwagon in August was Cindy Douglass, a graphic designer from Brunswick. She nabbed a BBS account right away and has already taken advantage of its features. Venessa and Mark Rand also joined us - Venessa is director of Design Press and uses a Mac to coordinate their printing and design. She, also, is enjoying the offerings on the SMUG BBS. Mark is head designer for Design Press, and also teaches Desktop Publishing courses at SCAD. Welcome Cindy, Venessa, and Mark!
GIVEAWAYS at the August meeting included Star Trek Sounds (Cheryl Chapline), FindAll (Louis Baker), and two SMUG T-shirts (Neil Harrison and Venessa Rand).
